Change Makers Across Different Centuries Josefina Di Stabile In my public speaking class, we recently completed a group presentation project about historical change makers. Each group was assigned a different century and had to present important people who helped shape society during that time. My role in this project was to serve as the manager for all the groups. Because of this, I had the opportunity to listen to every presentation, observe how each team worked together, and reflect on what we learned from the different topics. This experience allowed me to see how individuals from different periods in history have influenced politics, technology, social movements, and leadership. Even though the centuries were different, many of the figures presented shared a common characteristic: they helped create change that affected many people.   “Public speaking” the two phrases that can either intimidate or inspire. When I first heard these two words together, I was afraid. As a person who grew up shy, speaking in front of others wasn’t something easy to overcome. But the presentations given over the past few weeks have shown me that it is a process. One that should not be taken lightly in order to have a good presentation. As a student in this class but also a project manager, I was able to see both the point of view of creating a speech but also supervising. Being a project manager allowed me to see and understand art of public speaking from another point of view, while allowing me to participate myself. Finding Confidence Through Practice: My Experience as a Group Leader Public speaking is often described as something people either have or do not have. Before this class, I also thought confidence was something you are born with. After watching and working with all the group presentations throughout the classes, I had changed my mind.  Being a student and group leader allowed me to see the learning process from a different point of view. I did not only listen to what each group presented, but I also observed how confidence, teamwork, and communication developed over time. This experience clearly showed me that public speaking is not static. It is an evolving skill that improves with practice, preparation, and reflection.
